Tong Guan Company grew out of humble beginnings almost half a century ago. Although the company began operating as a business entity in 1963, it all started back in 1933 when Ong Tong Guan, a migrant from the Fukien province of China set foot on Singaporean soil. Born of hardy Chinese stock, he came to the heart of South East Asia brimming with optimism, seeking his fortune in a new land. Possessed of an indomitable will, he started his business with the help of his wife and children in 1963 roasting and peddling peanuts on a bicycle. After 10 years of perseverance, he was able to move his 'factory' to Geylang Industrial Estate and by 1980; incorporated as Tong Guan Food Products Pte. Ltd. Ong Tong Guan's vision was finally realized. Subsequently, the rapidly growing success of his business called for a subsidiaries of the company to be established in major cities around the region and relocation of his head office to No. 33 Chin Bee Crescent in Jurong, a place almost twenty times the size of its former premises.

Today, the legacy of Ong Tong Guan lives on in the capable hands of his offspring, Ong Heng Chuan, Managing Director in charge of corporate and investment affairs, James Ong, Executive Director responsible for the group's manufacturing operations and who is currently heading Tong Guan's operations in Thailand and Johnny Ong who is head honcho for the facilities in China. The Tong Guan business entity spans over five countries, its head office and main manufacturing facility based in Singapore, with factories and sales offices in Malaysia, Thailand and China and a warehouse-cum-sales office in Hong Kong.
